During each phyiscal exam, Mariana Pardo, BSCv, MV, DACVECC, uses point of care ultrasound techniques on a patient. In a dvm360® interview at the Directions in Veterinary Medicine (DIVM) symposium in Miami, Florida, she explains 3 areas of the pet she checks for abnormalities.

Mariana Pardo, BSCv, MV, DACVECC: So I always, always check the heart. So I'm looking for volume status at that point. I'm looking at the lungs, making sure that there is no abnormalities that I'm seeing there, even if the patient is breathing normally I always check. And then I always check the abdomen to see if there's any free fluid.
