Metabolic abnormalities such as hepatic encephalopathy secondary to a portosystemic shunt, hypocalcemia, or hypoglycemia can sometimes cause these signs, but Rintu’s history suggests toxicosis. Patients with hypoglycemia or hepatic encephalopathy also tend to have altered mentation, which may put these lower on the differential list.
