At a CVC conference not far away ... master your veterinary surgical skills

Article

Get light-years ahead by taking one of CVC Kansas Citys hands-on Clinical Techniques Courses.

“Do. Or do not. There is no try.”

Do Yoda's words to Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back sound like your current approach to some surgical procedures? When faced with a dog in need of a splenectomy or a cat in need of a enterotomy, do you feel you have only two options: Do, or do not (and refer)?

CVC Kansas City's hands-on Clinical Techniques Courses offer you a third option that flies in the face of the Jedi Master's advice. After receiving training and instruction from veterinary experts, you can try new surgical procedures and techniques that you can later do in your veterinary clinic.

Jennifer Wardlaw, DVM, MS, DACVS, and Andrew Claude, DVM, DACVAA, are teaching two courses that can dramatically expand and hone your surgical skills and improve patient care before, during and after surgery: “Vital feline soft tissue surgeries with anesthesia and pain management techniques,” and “Vital canine soft tissue surgeries with anesthesia and pain management techniques.”

After a morning of interactive instruction and discussion, participants in the former course will spend the afternoon performing a gastrotomy, an intestinal resection and anastomosis, a perineal urethrostomy in dorsal or ventral recumbency and sciatic, femoral and brachial plexus blocks, to name but a few. Meanwhile, those who sign up for the canine course will get a chance to try a cystotomy, diaphragmatic hernia repair, a gastropexy and a tracheotomy, among many other procedures.

If you've already achieved Jedi status in these surgical procedures, CVC Kansas City offers 11 other courses, including ultrasonography, digital dental imaging, dental extractions in dogs and cats, ophthalmic surgical skills, stabilization techniques for luxating patellas and local and regional anesthetic techniques.

Register today to take advantage of these hands-on learning opportunities. May the force be with you.
