For many fractious dogs, it's safer to work with them on an exam room table instead of the floor. However, dogs can perceive someone bending over and lifting them as a threat. So to lift a dog safely, place a slip leash on the dog, and use a towel as a sling under its abdomen. Lifting with the leash and towel can quickly and safely allow you to hoist the dog onto the table.
