When euthanizing a pet with its owners present, consider using the lateral saphenous vein rather than the cephalic vein. Working on the hindlimb allows owners to cradle their pet's head and allay its anxiety. In addition, the lateral saphenous vein may be more apparent and accessible than the cephalic vein is. Remember, having owners involved in a procedure increases your liability, so assess the situation carefully.
