“Keep your paws off my claws”
Cats and their claws: it’s a hot topic of discussion. Many veterinary professionals fall on the side against the act of declawing, while others remain in favor. Enter Feliway (Ceva Animal Health) with a new product with the best of both worlds—in other words, a solution that has cats scratching appropriately while keeping their claws.
Feliscratch, their latest product, was crafted to stop and prevent both vertical and horizontal destructive scratching in the home, according to a recent release. In the release, Valarie V. Tynes, DVM, DACVB, says, “It is a naturally derived, drug-free solution and the only product on the market proven to quickly address misplaced scratching."
So … what is it?
According to their website, “When scratching, cats mark their territory by leaving visual and chemical messages from their paws. Feliscratch is a copy of this scent. When applied on the desired scratching surface, like a scratching post, it mimics your cat’s messages, encouraging him to scratch there again.”
Long story short, Feliscratch is a pheromone product to help redirect scratching to scratching posts rather than couches. Benefits include a clinically proven, drug-free formula that allows cats to keep their claws and clients to keep their sanity.
OK, how do you apply it?
There’s no head-scratching required, according to Feliscratch’s website. Simply apply the dose (a 0.17-fl-oz pipette) to the cat’s scratching post (or other places your clients would prefer they scratch) and let the pheromones work their magic. The cat in question should be drawn to the scratch post naturally. There are multiple pipettes for cat owners to apply regularly until the cat’s behavior has changed. One purchase will last up to four weeks—and one package does the trick for most cats, according to the website.
Perhaps Feliscratch is the solution to the stressful problem of carved-up couches and kitties keeping their claws. Learn more about the product and what it can do here.
