Though it may seem logical to feed a renal diet to cats suffering from chronic kidney disease, Margie Scherk, DVM, DABVP (feline), says that isn't always appropriate. "Restricting damaging excess phosphorus is important," she says—but not to the detriment of a carnivore's protein needs. Her suggestion: Continue whatever diet is working to keep the kitty in good condition and add an intestinal phosphate binder. Click the video for more.
