Though it may seem logical to feed a renal diet to cats suffering from chronic kidney disease, Margie Scherk, DVM, DABVP (feline), says that isn't always appropriate. "Restricting damaging excess phosphorus is important," she says-but not to the detriment of a carnivore's protein needs. Her suggestion: Continue whatever diet is working to keep the kitty in good condition and add an intestinal phosphate binder. Click the video for more.
