Think it's dementia? Remember DISHA

Video

This handy abbreviation will help you pinpoint true cases of cognitive dysfunction in your veterinary patients.

Aging ain't easy. The creaky joints and crankiness that goes along with it. Our pets are no different. Then there's the scarier part-the possible loss of memory, the dementia. You've likely learned this before, but in case you forgot (no judgment here!), veterinary behaviorist Dr. Gary Landsberg gives this reminder of the signs of dementia in older cats and dogs, abbreviated DISHA:

  • Disorientation

  • Interactions

  • Sleep changes

  • Housesoiling

  • Activity changes

Get more details about each sign in the video below.

Share this video with your clients that have older pets, too. They may be seeing some of these signs and not reporting them to you because they think it's all just normal. Then you can step in and help!
