Veterinary Economics Editorial Advisory Board member Dr. Karl Salzsieder of Salzsieder Consulting and Legal Services is a full-time consultant for veterinarians on business and legal matters. Dr. Salzsieder is one of the founders and former president of both the AVMLA and the AVPMCA, and has owned seven mixed or small animal practices (only four at one time). He was a corporate manager for VetSmart, now Banfield, and was the first VetSmart charter practice owner. He is the owner of one three-doctor small animal practice. Dr. Salzsieder owns one golden retriever, Buddy, and two cats, Tigger and Moma Kitty.
A hard-working veterinary assistant at my practice is having money troubles and turning to payday loans to make ends meet. Our salaries are fair and reasonable for our area and our economy. I'm worried this is a poor personal financial decision on his part. What should I do?
