When performing rabbit spays or ferret adrenalectomies, keep an autoclaved bag of 6-in single-tipped applicator cotton swabs available to dissect fat away from blood vessels for easier ligation. These swabs are much less traumatic to the delicate tissue than are other surgical instruments.
