Psyllium helps flush chicken bones

VETERINARY MEDICINE

Trying to flush the sharp chips and shards of a chicken bone ingestion wasn't going well with fluids, mineral oil, and glycerin. I needed something with substance to carry the chips and protect the intestinal lining, so I purchased psyllium at a local pharmacy. An enema with a slightly thickened slurry resulted in expulsion of the bone chips. I gave repeat psyllium enemas and finally an oral dose to help the patient pass the bone pieces. I also administered fluids and an analgesic.
