Cytauxzoon felis, the parasite shown in the photo, is a tick-borne pathogen but it is not a rickettsial agent and, thus, is not susceptible to doxycycline treatment. Antiprotozoal treatment such as diminazene, imidocarb, or atovaquone and azithromycin should be instituted.1,5
