Slowly introduce the catheter through the skin and thoracic wall at the blocked site (Figure 2) until you feel a pop, which usually corresponds to the catheter's entering the pleural space.
2. The site for catheter entry is at the palpable apex beat. Direct the catheter toward the opposite scapula.
