What vet techs say behind your back

Article

Everyone loves on vet techs during National Veterinary Technician Week, but the rest of the year many of them don't get the recognition and respect they deserve. Here are veterinary technician and doctor confessions on the special abilitiesand sad situationof the talented certified technician.

"If only there was a nice way to tell my vet that they'd be screwed if I left. Who else will be able to put in IV catheters? Run blood? Take appointments? Work Cornerstone and take phone calls? Assign in surgeries and prep? No one, because I'm the one who does everything and they STILL treat me like I'm irrelevant and only get paid barely minimum wage."

"I graduated tech school. I know more than you think I do. I CAN read that CBC/chem and urinalysis too!"

"It irritates me when clients ignore my advice because I'm a tech, but the doctor says the same thing and they go ahead with it. Techs know what they're talking about too! I went to school for four years and I'm certified-JUST LISTEN! (P.S. I want to be a vet eventually. Think I'll get ignored THEN?)"

"As much as I love my job, I am constantly short on money. I cannot imagine being in another career, but I find it VERY stressful that I will be poor for the rest of my life and have to rely on my husband. #vettechlife"

"The best compliment a tech can receive is that the doctor can't do it without you."

Aaaand ... this vet really seems to get it, don't ya think?

"When I own my own practice (hopefully soon!), I want to really utilize and appreciate my staff. I hear so many staff complain they don't get this where they work, but I know I can't do it without you! I hope I find some of you when I finally make the leap!"
