Letters: Experience with both systems

Article

In response to Dr. Miller's column "Don't socialize medicine" (October 2009), I think I'm in a better position to share my experience about health systems.

In response to Dr. Miller's column "Don't socialize medicine" (October 2009), I think I'm in a better position to share my experience about health systems. I've lived in Quebec, Canada, my whole life except from 1999 to 2002, when I lived in the United States. Having experienced both systems, I'd never want Canada's to be privatized. On top of the injustices privatized healthcare brings, its financial interests are too important to avoid pitfalls and extremes. Canada isn't a communist country. We admire professional ambitions and successes as much as you do in the United States. Our medicine (human and veterinary) is at the same level as yours, and nobody in Canada goes bankrupt because of a health problem.
