Cushings disease update: Targeting the pituitary glands
A new approach to an old problem
About 90,000 to 100,000 new cases of Cushing's disease are diagnosed in geriatric dogs every year. Veterinary endocrinologist Dr. Dave Bruyette says that still not much is known about why this disease develops in dogs, but new treatments that focus directly on the pituitary glands-the primary cause of the disease-instead of the adrenal glands are being investigated.
