VEG announces 2021 scholarship winners
The grant will cover fourth-year veterinary school tuition for each of the 2 recipients, thus lessening their financial burden post-graduation.

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) has awarded the annual VEG Scholarship to veterinary students Katie Freeman of Texas A&M University and Alexa Simmons of Auburn University. This scholarship will cover the entire fourth year of tuition for each recipient.
“VEG is leading the industry and making it possible for new veterinarians to graduate with less financial burden,” said David Bessler, VMD, founder and CEO of VEG, in a company release.
"Student debt is often the biggest concern we hear about when we meet new doctors, and the annual VEG Scholarship allows us to give back and support aspiring Emergency Veterinarians," he added.
From Louisville, Kentucky, Alexa Simmons is passionate about animal welfare and people, and she will begin her career at VEG Boynton Beach, Florida next year. As a native of Fort Worth, Texas, Katie Freeman has had aspirations of becoming a future veterinarian from a young age and will join VEG Katy, Texas full-time in 2022.
The annual VEG Scholarship was founded in 2019 to reduce incoming veterinarians’ financial burden post-graduation. A one-of-a-kind scholarship, VEG usually awards fourth-year veterinary students in the US and offers them a competitive training program and a full-time role as an Emergency Veterinarian post-graduation.
